Cloud for education: How PWSFTviT enabled students to access advanced tools remotely with AWS and GPU

About the Client

The Leon Schiller National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź (PWSFTviT) is one of the most prestigious art schools in Poland, Europe, and even the world. For years, the university has been training filmmakers, television producers, theatre creators, and multimedia specialists, offering programmes such as directing, cinematography, film editing, animation, and film production.

The school is renowned for its high standard of education and the numerous artistic successes of its graduates on the international stage. In an era where digital tools are becoming increasingly important, PWSFTviT focuses on modern educational methods, including the use of advanced graphic environments and cloud-based workflows.

The challenge

Due to the growing demand for teaching tools related to 3D graphics, animation, and game engines, PWSFTviT faced the challenge of providing students with access to high-performance computing environments capable of supporting complex graphic projects – such as working with Unreal Engine, image streaming, or real-time collaborative project editing.

The previous approach, based on local computer hardware:

  • Was costly (both for the purchase and maintenance of workstations with GPU cards),

  • Was difficult to scale depending on the number of workshop participants,

  • Limited the possibilities for remote collaboration among students.

The university needed a solution that was:

  • Secure and in line with IT best practices,

  • Easy to manage,

  • Accessible to students without the need for installing local software or owning a powerful GPU-equipped computer.

Thus, PWSFTviT was looking for a technological partner to provide a modern, scalable cloud-based educational platform – ready for immediate use by both students and lecturers.

Our solution

The Trek2Summit team designed and implemented a comprehensive and scalable educational environment in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud, fully tailored to the specific needs of PWSFTviT and the graphic tools used during the workshops.

Tools and services used

AWS Services:
  • AWS Control Tower – for deploying an environment compliant with best practices in a multi-account architecture.

  • AWS Organizations – central orchestration of the environment and management of policies across multiple AWS accounts.

  • Amazon EC2 (GPU instances) – instances with NVIDIA T4 GPUs, used for running Unreal Engine and handling Pixel Streaming.

  • Amazon VPC – providing an isolated network environment for EC2 instances and users.

  • Amazon Workspaces Secure Browser – secure, remote access to the workshop environment via a browser.

  • Amazon S3 – flexible and scalable storage for project data and graphic resources.

  • AWS IAM Identity Center – centralised access management for administrators and students.

  • AWS CloudTrail – monitoring and logging of activity in the AWS environment (audit, security).

  • Amazon Route 53 – DNS management, enabling access to applications via readable domain names.

External tools and applications:
  • Unreal Engine – the primary work environment for 3D graphic projects.

  • Pixel Streaming – allows real-time image streaming from Unreal Engine to students’ browsers.

  • Helix Core (Perforce P4) – version control and collaboration system for project files.

  • NVIDIA Omniverse Nucleus – for managing and synchronising 3D resources in collaborative environments.
